Admire Pro (soil application)(imidacloprid)

General Information

Admire Pro is a systemic neonicotinoid insecticide. It moves upward to new growth, but not down. It has several application options, including as a diluted spray onto seed-pieces, as an in-furrow spray or a subsurface side-dress on both sides of the hill, or as an early foliar application. Expect up to 60-90 days of residual control depending on the application timing, use rate, soil and environmental conditions, plant growth rate, and insect pressure. Apply neonicotinoid insecticides (Group 4A) ONLY once in a season, because exposure to insecticides with long persistence in foliage can create strong selection pressure towards resistant insect populations. Similar products (other brands) containing imidacloprid are available but uses and use rates vary.

Stage of Development: Planting to Pre-emergence
Pest or Disease MOA1 Efficacy2 Rate per Acre3 REI4 PHI5 Notes
Aphid (various species) 4AE5.7-8.7 fl oz12 hIt may work too slowly to prevent spread of Potato Virus Y, especially when winged (migratory) aphid numbers are high.
Beet Leafhopper (Circulifer tenellus) 4AG5.7-8.7 fl oz12 hShould provide some early season control, but it may work too slowly to prevent rapid spread of phytoplasma diseases (e.g., purple top disease) when BLH numbers are high. Watch the Contour Maps in the Potato DAS every week to monitor regional BLH population densities.
Colorado Potato Beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) 4AE5.7-8.7 fl oz12 hDon’t be alarmed to find newly emerged adult beetles alive on treated plants, because it can take days for them to start feeding, ingest the insecticide, and then die. But if larvae are found on treated plants, then the product residual is probably no longer active.
Potato Psyllid (Bactericera cockerelli) 4AE (a)5.7-8.7 fl oz12 hIt should control migrating adult potato psyllids for 60-90 days. The application may be followed-up with in-season, foliar insecticides for a no-gaps psyllid management strategy.
Wireworms (Elateridae) 4AP5.7-8.7 fl oz12 hIt can reduce wireworm damage to seed-pieces, but it will not prevent damage to daughter tubers during the growing season.

1Mode of action. NC = not classified..
2 Efficacy ratings denote the relative ability of a pesticide to control its target. The ratings are E = excellent, G = good, F = fair/suppression; P = poor, and ND = no data. Efficacy ratings are based on the inherent toxicity of the pesticide against its target, the likelihood that the target will contact or ingest the product as applied, duration of impact on the target, and undesired effects, such as negative impacts on natural enemies that could lead to future pest outbreaks.
3 Rate per acre per application. Refer to the product label for maximum use rate per season.
4 Reentry interval.
5The minimum pre-harvest interval. Some products do not list PHI.
Note: always read and follow the directions on the pesticide label.
