Mustang Maxx has contact and ingestion activity. It is toxic to many kinds of insects with a relatively long duration of impact from residues. This and other pyrethroid insecticides (Group 3) should not be used mid-season because they kill predatory insects that help to keep aphids, psyllids, thrips, and spider mites in check. Mustang Maxx is not systemic or translaminar, but residues should persist for 7-14 days. Re-apply if needed to protect new foliage. High water volumes help with product distribution. Make only two consecutive applications before rotating to an insecticide with a different MOA. Similar products with zeta-cypermethrin are available but use rates vary.

Aphid (various species) | 3 | F-P | 3.2-4.0 fl oz | 12 h | 1 d | Apply before aphid populations start to build, and it is before mid-June. Not particularly effective for aphids. |
Armyworms, Cutworms, Loopers (various genera, Lepidoptera) | 3 | G | See Label | 12 h | 1 d | Apply when small caterpillars are present, but only if it’s before mid-June. |
Beet Leafhopper (Circulifer tenellus) | 3 | G | 1.76-4.0 fl oz | 12 h | 1 d | Apply in May and/or early-to-mid June if BLH populations are building. |
Colorado Potato Beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) | 3 | G | 3.2-4.0 fl oz | 12 h | 1 d | Apply at 50% egg hatch while larvae are small, but only if it’s before mid-June. |
Lygus Bugs (Lygus species) | 3 | G | 3.2-4.0 fl oz | 12 h | 1 d | Apply when nymphs are present before mid-June. |
Potato Psyllid (Bactericera cockerelli) | 3 | G (n+a) | See Label | 12 h | 1 d | Psyllids are on the label but not in the potato section. Apply when adult psyllids are migrating into the field and it’s before mid-June. It may not control nymphs on the underside of leaves where the product is not well distributed. |

2 Efficacy ratings denote the relative ability of a pesticide to control its target. The ratings are E = excellent, G = good, F = fair/suppression; P = poor, and ND = no data. Efficacy ratings are based on the inherent toxicity of the pesticide against its target, the likelihood that the target will contact or ingest the product as applied, duration of impact on the target, and undesired effects, such as negative impacts on natural enemies that could lead to future pest outbreaks.
3 Rate per acre per application. Refer to the product label for maximum use rate per season.
4 Reentry interval.
5The minimum pre-harvest interval. Some products do not list PHI.
Note: always read and follow the directions on the pesticide label.
