Asana XL(esfenvalerate)

General Information

Asana XL has contact and ingestion activity. It is toxic to many kinds of insects with a relatively long duration of impact from residues. This and other pyrethroid insecticides (Group 3) should not be used mid-season because they kill predatory insects that help to keep aphids, psyllids, thrips, and spider mites in check. Asana XL is not systemic or translaminar, but residues generally persist for 7-14 days. It may need to be re-applied to cover new foliage. Use high water volumes with ground or aerial applications to ensure the product is well distributed in the foliage. Make only two consecutive applications before rotating to an insecticide with a different MOA. Similar products (other brands) with esfenvalerate are available but use rates vary.

Aphid (various species) 3F-P5.8-9.6 fl oz12 h7 dApply before aphid populations start to build, but only if it’s before mid-June. Not particularly effective for aphids.
Armyworms, Cutworms, Loopers (various genera, Lepidoptera) 3G5.8-9.6 fl oz12 h7 dApply when small caterpillars are present, but only if it’s before mid-June.
Beet Leafhopper (Circulifer tenellus) 3G2.9-5.8 fl oz12 h7 dApply in May and/or early-to-mid June if BLH populations are building.
Colorado Potato Beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) 3G5.8-9.6 fl oz12 h7 dApply at 50% egg hatch while larvae are small, but only if it’s before mid-June.
Lygus Bugs (Lygus species) 3G5.8 to 9.6 fl oz12 h7 dLygus bugs are on the label but not in the potato section. Apply when nymphs are present if it’s before mid-June.
Potato Psyllid (Bactericera cockerelli) 3G (n+a)2.9-5.8 fl oz12 h7 dApply when adult psyllids are migrating into the field and it's before mid-June. If early nymphs are present, it may not control the nymphs that are on the underside of leaves where the product may not be as well distributed.

1Mode of action. NC = not classified..
2 Efficacy ratings denote the relative ability of a pesticide to control its target. The ratings are E = excellent, G = good, F = fair/suppression; P = poor, and ND = no data. Efficacy ratings are based on the inherent toxicity of the pesticide against its target, the likelihood that the target will contact or ingest the product as applied, duration of impact on the target, and undesired effects, such as negative impacts on natural enemies that could lead to future pest outbreaks.
3 Rate per acre per application. Refer to the product label for maximum use rate per season.
4 Reentry interval.
5The minimum pre-harvest interval. Some products do not list PHI.
Note: always read and follow the directions on the pesticide label.
