EPA's Agriculture Worker Protection Standard (WPS) aims to reduce pesticide poisonings and injuries among agricultural workers and pesticide handlers.
Farms must have a central posting display that includes: product name, active ingredient, EPA registration number, restricted entry interval (REI), time and date of application, area treated, and a safety poster and emergency medical information. This information must remain posted for 30 days.
Workers and handlers must receive notification about pesticide applications as described on the product label. The label will note whether notification can be oral, or must be done by posting the “warning—do not enter sign”, or if both oral and posting notifications are required. Most agrichemical products used for potato production do not require posting of “warning—do not enter” signs, but some farms elect to post all applications.
If “warning—do not enter” signs are required, they must not be displayed longer than 24 hours before the application and must be removed or covered within 3 days after the end of the restricted entry interval.
