Dimethoate 400 EC has contact and ingestion activity. It may knockback some beneficial, predatory insects in addition to pests. It is probably best used for late season knockback of multiple pest species. It is locally systemic, but its residues last only days. The spray solution should have a pH under 7. Make only two consecutive applications before rotating to an insecticide with a different MOA. Similar products containing dimethoate are available.

| Target | Application per Acre | REI | PHI | MOA | Eff. | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aphid | 0.5-1.0 pt | 48 h | 0 d | 1B | G | It will knockback aphid populations, but products with longer residual activity are preferred for controlling migratory aphids and limiting Potato Virus Y spread. Better for late season to knockback multiple pests. |
| Beet Leafhopper | 0.5-1.0 pt | 48 h | 0 d | 1B | P | It will control BLHs on contact but is not recommended because it provides only a few days of residual control. Products with longer residual activity are more cost-effective for maintaining control of BLH during their migration periods and limiting spread of phytoplasma diseases (e.g., purple top). |
| Lygus Bugs | 0.5-1.0 pt | 48 h | 0 d | 1B | G | Lygus bugs are on the label but not in the potato section. It will knockback lygus bugs, especially if applied when nymphs are present. |
| Potato Psyllid | See Label | 48 h | 0 d | 1B | F-P (a) | The label doesn’t mention psyllids, but applications made to target other pests will knockback psyllids. Products with longer residuals are preferred for controlling psyllids as they slowly migrate into potatoes. |
